Amerikanska långseglarorganisationen Seven Seas Cruising Association har ett motto som de kallar ”clean wake” som är mycket tänkvärt och som jag också kommer att bära med mig under långseglingen.

 

Jag har gjort en snabb översättning (jag tar gärna emot tips på bättre benämningar).

 

Lämna ett rent kölvatten

Vi lämnar alltid en plats bättre än vi fann den genom att behandla andra och vår miljö med respekt och hänsyn, så att de som kommer efter oss också kommer att vara välkomna.

 

I original; “We always leave a clean wake by treating others and our environment with respect and deep regard, so that those who follow in our wake will be welcome.”

SSCA Motto — Clean Wake

Know and follow maritime rules — these include the Rules of the Road and discharge and waste management regulations.

 

Be willing to assist a fellow sailor — regardless of which flag his/her vessel flies. You may need someone’s help tomorrow.

 

Be prudent and courteous in the management of your vessel — assuring the safety of your self and your crew and the safety, comfort and convenience of vessels nearby.

 

Respect the local laws, customs and beliefs of any country you visit — even when you feel that others may be in the wrong. You can be courteous and respectful with out compromising your personal standards.

 

Leave behind you a trail of good will. Leave every port having made satisfactory arrangements for all goods and services used, and ensure that a warm welcome will be extended to all cruisers following in your wake. We are all ambassadors of the cruising fraternity and diplomacy is always in our mutual best interest.
