Dear Mr. Johansson,
on german coastal waters (up to three nautical miles from the german coast) foreign operators of pleasure craft with no residence in Germany must have the national required certificate of their residence country for operating pleasure craft fitted with an engine of more than 3,68 kilowatts power.
For operating pleasure craft of length less than 15 meters there is the same rule on german inland waterways included the river Rhine. Specific for german inland waterways: Nationals of countries which issue international certificates for operators of pleasure craft in inland waters according to Resolution 40 ECE must have an international certificate for operating motorized pleasure craft on inland waterways or the national required certificate of their residence country. Specific for german inland waterways in and around Berlin: For operating sailing pleasure craft with sail area of more than three square meters the national required certificate of the residence country for operating sailing pleasure craft on inland waterways is needed (alternatively the international certificate).
The described rules for non residents are valid for a stay in Germany of not longer than twelwe month.
Yours sincerely
Oliver Laue
